I am French
but live in the UK in Cheshire.
I've always been into "making things" - it all started
with paper cutouts from magazines, collaged into mini-posters,
and hand drawing. The world of textiles opened up for me when
I came to England and I never looked back. I attended a few embroidery
day-workshops with local artists such as Colette Gilmartin and
Jennifer Collier, but I am mostly self-taught, with the help of
lots of books, friends and the internet.
My art journey took me
to felting by chance and I joined
the International Feltmakers Association for a while. I love to
work with natural materials, and felt is surprisingly versatile
- it allows 3D effects whilst remaining lightweight and manageable.
I also attended a workshop
in stained glass windows with Lauren
Sagar in 2003 which gave me another perspective on materials and
effects - I discovered transparence, transluscence and light!
Finally I attended a part-time
City & Guilds course in machine Embroidery
in 2006 and became a member of Manchester's Embroiderers' Guild.
I took part in a few local exhibitions and you can find me in
Bead
Love, where I contributed a few of my felt beads! It is a
wonderful book full of designer ideas and beads.
I love combining, and my
joy is to pair unlikely media together: felt and glass, or fabrics
and metal for exemple and would love to learn how to be a blacksmith,
a goldsmith too. Or working with enamels , ceramics and wood...
Plenty of scope and ideas, let's hope the opportunities will arise
soon!
